Good job on the speed work! Sounds like you are really getting ready to make a good run at the BQ this year. We gotta put this group together and just go for it.

Dace and I ran 20 on the course this morning starting just north of Veyo to the park.  We finished at 7:24 pace.  The last mile was run at that pace.  I don't know if I still had a 10K left in me, but I did do the speed work yesterday that probably cost me a bit.  It was a confidence builder today, and my calf held up again.

Let's hope it all stays together and the stars line up come race day.

I'll say they were all fast today because of the winds and the uphill parts.  I did the 1st mile at 7:29, then 7:31, 7:37, 7:49, 7:46, 7:29, 7:30, 7:26, and 7:18.  I had to really push on some of these miles.  I was a little sore and winded from my run on Sat. on the course.

I'll be on the bike tomorrow.  My legs need the rest.  I'll go 20 on the bike.  Wed. I'm planning on running 10 miles at marathon pace.

Great job on a great fast workout. Did I understand it right that you are joining Jeff's group at SG?? Will be great to have you if you are.

From jeffc on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 15:17:56 from 167.207.128.101

Mark...yep this is Chad. He has another guy that will join us as well. So we have Chadl, you, Mike Warren, Me, MarkE, and Chad's friend. Is DaceG the name of your friend Chad? As the time gets closer we really need to nail down a place to meet and a time so we can put this group together at the start. From the sounds of it, if we all put 3:15 or better on our registration we should all get access to the elite starting coral which would be nice. But if not we should probably fight our way as close to the front as possible. Less than three weeks to go, it's gettin exciting!

From chadl on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 15:23:28 from 146.82.36.102

Yes, DaceG is the one I was referring to. We could meet near the water station at the start point. That area usually isn't too congested. The fires are hard to find someone at.

From jeffc on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 15:31:10 from 167.207.128.101

That's cool we just need to set a time and we are good to go. I'm thinking 10 minutes or so before the start will be good. I will be on an earlier bus so I will be all snuggled up next to a fire.

From chadl on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 15:34:12 from 146.82.36.102

That should work. That's about the time I'm stripping off my parka and other clothing to throw it in the truck which is right there near the water station.

From Huans32 on Thu, Sep 17, 2009 at 13:59:30 from 138.64.2.76

I will probably on the very early bus too. So I can meet anywhere really. Prefer not having to worry to much about people that close to the start again. Since I will be hitting a PoP around then.

From chadl on Thu, Sep 17, 2009 at 14:05:17 from 146.82.36.102

Can you use the elite ones? The lines are really short if any lines at all.

From Huans32 on Thu, Sep 17, 2009 at 14:09:26 from 138.64.2.76

Yeah I think we will all be using those right?? If they have the 3:15 or so elite status again for those that put that. I didn't really know that till Jeff pointed it out to me last year. I am just saying 10 mins before we are probably hanging around the PoP or warming up. That area is so congested around the bag drop off and such for everyone tring to get that done and get to there spot to go at the gun.

From chadl on Thu, Sep 17, 2009 at 14:33:21 from 146.82.36.102

Assuming we can all get in there, we could just meet near the elite POP's.

From jeffc on Thu, Sep 17, 2009 at 15:11:16 from 167.207.128.101

I would say meeting by the elite pops is a great idea if we all get in there. That way we can do our own warm ups and clothing drop-offs and then meet up. I have a cell number for both chad and Huans and I will try to get one for Mike Warren and MarcE so we can all be in touch on Friday and see if we all end up in the elite corral.

Mile 4 we ran at 7:10 pace, mile 9 at 7:09, and mile 14 at 7:05 pace.  The rest of the miles were either +- 8:00 pace.

We finished the run at 2:05:36.

From chadl on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 11:36:30 from 146.82.36.102

Yeah, that's pretty funny how close our times were. It was a great run because there's some nice hills in there especially the hill from Santa Clara to Ivins.

Looks like you had a great run with hills as well. I think we're all there we just need the stars to line up come race day.

About the meds, I usually take about 3 ibuprofen or aleve as well on my long runs. It helps with the post run soreness. So I don't think they'll hurt your performance at all come race day. Hopefully you can get that figured out long term though.

I went out today thinking I would run at marathon pace, but the legs felt great so I went for it.  I  ran 7:23, 7:17, 7:12, 7:09, 7:07, 7:05, and then 7:14 on the last mile.

The last mile was the only tough mile because it was uphill with a bit of a head wind.  The rest of the miles I felt pretty relaxed on.  On the bike tomorrow for 20, and then it's off deer hunting so I'll have to pick up my runs in the middle of the day on dirt roads.  Should be interesting!  Hopefully I can eat fairly decent.

Holy cow!! Look at you go with those speedy miles Chad. Your looking very strong coming into this taper. Looking forward to running with you. And trying to keep up with you.:) And the dirt road running with be great on your joints and such. Just remember that you run slower on those terrain so dont kill yourself trying to do MP or better.

From chadl on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 12:01:23 from 146.82.36.102

Thanks, I just hope I can sustain. Yeah, the rest of this week will be easy miles. Only plan on running 15 more for the week.

I think we're all in pretty good shape for the marathon. It should be a good group. You'll keep up just fine unless it's due to all the muscle weight that I have a great lack of (just fat on me).

From Huans32 on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 13:55:44 from 138.64.2.76

Oh its good to have some fat on you for later in the race right.:) At least that is what I keep saying to the wife. Even though I got to tighten up my diet for sure these last few days.

From chadl on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 15:52:30 from 146.82.36.102

I don't know about that, but it does weigh less than muscle. That would be nice it that's true though. I need every little bit of help that I can get.

From chadl on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 13:53:38 from 146.82.36.102

I just use my mountain bike. I figure I don't have to go as far to get the same workout.

From chadl on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 13:57:34 from 146.82.36.102

I just use my mountain bike. I figure I don't have to go as far to get the same workout. Time's a problem for me, and the bike takes so much longer than running. I'm trying to do more cross training though to try and curtail some of these injuries.

How about you? Do you road bike or mountain bike?

From jeffc on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 14:05:54 from 167.207.128.101

Good luck hunting the next few days...be careful.

From Huans32 on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 14:10:27 from 138.64.2.76

I have a road bike. Along with my wife. She is a faster biker then me. But I still have a edge on her running. And with riding it really helps keep you injury free. After riding a road bike though I cant see ever going to something else. Unless I was going off road.

From chadl on Tue, Sep 22, 2009 at 14:23:19 from 146.82.36.102

Thanks Jeff!

Mark--I heard that a road bike is so much nicer. I just can't afford one at the moment, and figure at least I'm getting more work from all the resistance on the mountain bike. I enjoy passing people on their road bikes along my route. It doesn't happen often but occasionally.

From Huans32 on Wed, Sep 23, 2009 at 09:13:29 from 138.64.2.76

LOL yea they are nice if your on the roads and they are nice and flat. You feel every bump and such. But they are much faster. I just fly by mountain bikes. Good to see your getting in some good xtraining man.

Marathon Day things didn't go as planned.  I cramped up the last few miles and was barely able to run through the finish.  Couldn't have asked for better conditions.

I still finished 3:22:25 so it was respectable just not where I wanted to be.  The calves started to cramp up at mile 19-20, but I was still able to keep the pace.  With just under 2 miles to go my quads and groin cramped up really bad, and my quads felt like they were going to give way.  My 25th mile was at 8:59 pace, and then my 26th was at 10:41.  It was all I could do to run to the finish.  I lost my goal in the last 2-3 miles, but it was still a good run.

I'll get there soon enough.  Even if I have to wait until I'm 40.  No just kidding the goal is still 3:15.

From jeffc on Thu, Oct 29, 2009 at 13:33:48 from 167.207.128.101

The back pretty much sucks right now, worse that usual. I may consider UV but I was thinking more along the lines of Ogden in May. I know UV is down hill, I need to check out the course. Ogden is pretty much all down hill as well. Only one small hill (half mile) around mile 14 then it's down through the canyon fast. I think I ran 3:39 there in 2008.

Hey man. Sorry I skipped on you saturday. I coughed all night long, so I felt like crap by 6:30 AM. I did get a few miles in later in the morning. I am going to do the shac tri on saturday, so I will be out again. Lets go during the week.

Just a nice easy run today.  I wanted to keep it close to 8:00 pace after a couple of fast days this week.  I didn't look at the Garmin much at all which made for a great run.  I always enjoy the runs more when I'm not paying much attention to the clock.

I have been doing that alot lately too. Just running and not worrying about paces or anything till I hit the stop button. Great job man.

Felt winded today.  I don't know if it was the humidity because of the rain, the day off or what.  The 3rd mile which has some uphill really kicked my butt, and it usually doesn't bother me. After that, I felt pretty good for the most part.

I didn't pay too much attention to the watch today just tried to run and enjoy it.  I still am in the habit of looking at the watch so it's hard for me not to look at occasionally.  The weather was perfect.  I didn't start until after 9 am.  Felt a lot better today than I did yesterday.

Hey man. Had a great time at the tri. Again, sorry I missed the run on Fri. Lets try to go next week when you get back in town.

The tri was good. I got 2nd in my group. It is a much more relaxed feel than some of them, so that is nice. We ought to do the April one as well.

Legs were a bit sluggish today.  Understandable though considering I didn't run for over a week while on vacation.  I had good attentions by taking my running gear along, but as usual it didn't happen.

Just a nice easy run.  I wasn't rushed this morning so I just took it easy to give the legs a chance to recover.

Way to play it smart and let your legs recover. Great recovery run.

Thanksgiving is always a great day for a run.  The right achilles is starting to bother me a little.  I don't know if I need to to slow it down or what.  I've been trying to focus on landing on my fore foot.  I must not be doing it enough.  I can't seem to kick this achilles thing.  I've tried heel lifts which seemed to be working.  Maybe I need a new pair.  Hopefully I can kick this soon, and not have the problems I've had in the past.

Dace and I ran 6 miles today on the Virgin River trail system.  Just went at an easy pace.  I think we were just over 8 minute pace.  The achilles has been a little sore so I didn't want to go too fast.  I think I'm going to have to take a few days off to give it some rest, and wear the Strassburg sock at night.

Hope it isnt going to become a issue. how is your achillies feeling now??

Mark- I hope so too. It's the injury that gets me every year in my training. The sock is helping though because it feels a little better this week.

Just a nice slow run.  I went up Stone Cliff and ran around.  A lot of uphill.  Achilles is still sore, but has improved from last Friday.  Just need to keep going slow.  Just under 9 pace.

I ran with Dace and one of his track distance runners that he coaches on the high school team.  We met at Desert Hills High and ran 4.5 miles.  I added the 1.5 on the end, but slowed it way down.  I finished up just under 8 pace overall.

Dace and I ran 4.5 then I added 1.5 on at the end, and I slowed it down.  I'm hoping if I keep it slow I can cure this Achilles thing.  This was a cold one.

Woke up to a dusting of snow on the ground.  Dace and I were going to go 10.  Just before stretching I get a text from Dace.  Something about it's too cold, but really he just couldn't get the bed off his back.  It was a good run.  I just kept it slow.

I was planning on meeting Dace and Mark, but I was a few minutes late and they were gone.  They must of been on time because the other days I was already there when they got there.  I did a loop through Bloomington Hills that I hadn't done before.  A lot of hills, but it was a good run.  Overall the achilles felt pretty good.  I'll just keep the pace at 8-8:30.

Butch was in town from Vegas so I was supposed to meet him at 6:30 on the trail.  He forgot and thought it was at 6:00 so I knew the general course he was was running.  I was able to run into him about Bloomington.  He was on his way back.  So I finished up with him around 7 miles for me because he was at about 16.  I took him back to his place and then ran another 5 miles.
